- Basin Modelling - Proficient in the use of PetroMod 2-D basin modelling software
- Overpressure Evaluation - Overpressure is increasingly recognized as a major factor
influencing petroleum systems in Australian Basins
- Sedimentary Basin Analysis - A significant part of his work has involved the application
of seismic and stratigraphic techniques and utilizing core and well log analysis,
palynology, seismic stratigraphy and structural analysis to determine depositional
environments
- Oil and Gas Field Evaluation and Development - worked on field development early in his
career and again recently at Mobil he was involved in field evaluation studies.

Mainly through Shell International, Ian has worked in six countries as geologist,
geophysicist and geochemist. In Holland and Vietnam as geologist, New Zealand, Oman and
Australia as geophysicist and in Norway as Shell's geochemist. His value lies in his broad
experience base. He is experienced in acreage evaluation or prospect appraisal where
multidisciplinary experience is invaluable.

- Prospect evaluation - For 14 years Ian has evaluated new venture opportunities for the
Shell group of companies.
- Reserves estimation - A continuous requirement was the estimation of reserves often with
limited data.
- Handling uncertainty - Through the use of Monte Carlo simulation and estimation of
geological risk, stochastic modelling was applied to determine estimated monetary value of
prospects and acreage.
- Seismic interpretation - Extensive experience with main workstation software in both 2D
and 3D.
- Basin modelling - In Norske Shell Ian was the advisor on charge prediction, geochemistry
and basin modelling.
