PetroConsult in a joint venture with Geco-Prakla, are seeking pre-commitments from interested companies for seismic reprocessing and an interpretation report covering blocks V98-2, 3 & 4. These three federal release areas were gazetted in March 1998 for application by February 1999. It is currently proposed to fully reprocess the entire 1991 regional seismic data set. The 1994 seismic data will be re-displayed. The report will include seismic interpretation of the reprocessed data and prospect appraisal. For information send us an email to ian@petroconsult.com.au.
Gas
Chimney offshore Otway Basin The Victorian sector of the offshore Otway Basin has experienced relatively little exploration with only fourteen wells drilled across the region. Pecten-1A, the first offshore well drilled in the basin in 1967, flowed minor gas from Late Cretaceous sandstones of the Waarre Formation. However, the early wells suffered from both poor seismic data quality and coverage with most wells drilled outside structural closure.
Between 1991 and 1994, BHP Petroleum acquired an extensive regional and prospect orientated grid of 2-D seismic totalling 7,128 km covering much of the eastern portion of the basin. In 1993, drilling produced two significant gas/condensate discoveries at La Bella-1 and Minerva-1. Minerva-2A drilled in October 1993, confirmed the excellent reservoir characteristics of the Waarre Formation and a gas column in excess of 110 m.
